I am unable to offer you all download links to Windows 7 ISO files on Google Drive anymore because of copyright issues – Thanks to some AWESOME visitors of this blog, this post got reported and I already got a warning to remove all links that points to ISO files.
Still I have a solution for you all! Microsoft now allows anyone to download Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 ISO files from its Software Recovery Center provided that you have a genuine product key of your OS:
Suppose you’d like to download Windows 7 ISO file using Software Recovery Center then all you need to do is to click on Windows 7 logo and the immediate next page will show you certain instructions. Some of them are as follows:
- You must have your legit product key ready for your OS. A product key is generally a 25 character long code.
- You must have an active internet connection.
- Sufficient space must be available on your computer’s internal hard drive or USB drive or external hard drive.
- A blank USB storage device or a blank DVD with at least 4 GB of free space.
If you satisfy above mentioned requirements, then enter your product key in the field provided and click on verify button:
If your product key validation is successful, you will be presented with download links to both x86 and x64 ISO files.

Note:
- digitalrivercontent.net is official distribution website of Microsoft. Above mentioned links are clean and the files are completely safe to download.
- You can either use Mirror 1 or Mirror 2 to download your preferred version of the OS. There’s NO need to download files from both mirrors.
- Make use of Third Party download managers like DownThemAll, Download Accelerator Plus etc. for downloading above file(s). These files are very large and may get partially downloaded if you use your browser’s inbuilt download manager.
Remove Edition Configuration (EI.cfg) File
Why it is necessary to remove EI.cfg file?
Every time you install / re-install Windows on your computer, EI.cfg file determines what edition of Windows to install and which license key to apply during setup process. When you remove it, the setup disc starts acting like Universal Installation disc for all editions.
In order to remove edition configuration file from your ISO, you are required to download EI.cfg Removal Utility (eicfg_removal_utility.zip) from here
Extract the zip file and run eicfg_remover.exe. The utility will now ask for the Location of ISO file on your hard drive, which you recently downloaded:
Once you select the location of downloaded ISO file. the utility will remove edition configuration file from it and you will be greeted with message: ei.cfg removed:
You can now burn the ISO image onto a DVD using software like Nero, Ashampoo, Roxio etc.
Off-topic Note: The utility can also restore edition configuration file back to the ISO, using the same steps above.
Activating Windows 7 without calling Microsoft
Important Update: Many users are experiencing errors with this step because of the type of OEM that came pre-installed with their Computer. Refer to this post, if you are experiencing any errors.
When you install or re-install the OS on your computer, you may have to call Microsoft in order to Activate your copy. In this step we will learn how to backup your operating system’s current activation file, so that there’s no need to call Microsoft!
For backing up current activation file, download ABR (Activation Backup & Restore) Software from here – The file is in BETA for Windows 7, but it works without any problem.

Run ABRbeta.exe and Extract its content somewhere safe on your Hard Drive. Once extracted, run activation_backup.exe and the program will display all necessary information about your OS in Command Prompt (cmd).
The program will also create 2 files viz. backup-key.txt and backup-cert.xrm-ms:
Save the above files safely on an external media like USB Pen Drive, External Hard Drive, DVD etc. – Very Important.
